My friend, Jessi shared this on Facebook this week. The first 2 stories by this young man are hysterical, the 3rd, should not have happened to him, nor anyone else. He advocated for himself, and by doing so, perhaps prevented this from happening to anyone else. He captioned these so those who do not understand Sign Language yet can have access to what he is sharing. Thanks for the CC!!"

I watched these twice so that I could be sure of the captioning I was reading. My receptive skills are not great, especially if the signer is expressive and this young man was very expressive.
ReplyDeleteI actually did not think that the stories were funny - at all. And I like to think I have a good sense of humor! I don't know the background or details to all of these stories, but I don't think this young man interacts well with people who have normal hearing.
In the first, sorry - it was just mean.
In the second, as this young man is so expressive (not a fault - a plus in ASL), he may have misunderstood what was going on and it is obvious the doctors and nurses misunderstood. Where was his interpreter?
In the third, again I don't know the background or the whole story - but again it sounds as if it is a big case of misunderstanding and communication.
