Raised on the Southern Oregon Coast, now retired on the Southern Oregon Coast. I was a hard of hearing child who grew up to be a deafened adult. I share and write about deafness, hearing loss and other things I find interesting. I am a 50 something year old woman who could be anyone's mother, grandmother or friend. I've traveled the U.S., and I've lived in Europe. I'm currently residing near the beach with Fabulous Husband and 11 year old son. ~ Joyce Edmiston

"Waiting" by Breitenbach, full access music video
Here is something a little different with signs and captions for the younger, hipper crowd.
Fabulous Husband and I have both lived in Germany back in the 1980's. People are surprised that the music they play and sing in the clubs are mostly British or American. When they see the bands in interviews, people get confused because their English is so terrible. I don't know why there aren't as many German Rock bands, perhaps the language doesn't sound well in rock and roll? I haven't a clue.
I would like to see more of this from our own country, our own bands, performers, etc. I would love to see American Idol have one night where the contestants have to sign along with the song they are singing.
When Fabulous Husband saw the signed version of "Bohemian Rhapsody" he said, "I had no idea that's what the song was about. The signs and enactments bring so much more meaning and persepective to it than just the words!" Mind you, he's only learning sign now, but for a hearing person to understand the concept of total communication, WOW!!
younger, hipper, German crowd :) I think it was signed in DGS. Still pretty cool to see something like this out there!
ReplyDeleteHey, there, Dustin! I agree, and I hope it catches on all over the place.
DeleteNow I'm curious about the band, in particular why they chose to incorporate signs and captions into their music video?
ReplyDeleteThanks for posting this.
Hi again,
ReplyDeleteThis website says the video is considered the first barrier free music video in Germany!

The best communication is total communication.
